Red Sox Hit Home Run With 'It Gets Better' Anti-Bullying PSA

BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Red Sox are doing their part to stop bullying.

On Friday the team released a public service announcement in support of the "It Gets Better Project," which helps prevent bullying of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth and teen suicide by providing support through encouraging video messages.

Third baseman Kevin Youkilis, catcher and team captain Jason Varitek and Red Sox manager Terry Francona are featured in the PSA, which is now up on the team's official website and the "It Gets Better" project website

"It's ok to be your own unique being," Varitek says in the 60-second video

"It doesn't matter your sexual orientation, your beliefs in life," says Youkilis.

Also included in the video are Eric Maitland, a Red Sox greeter and Wheelock College counselor; TJ Connelly, Fenway Park's DJ and member of the Red Sox Fan Services & Entertainment department; Kristen Rosa, Smith College student and Red Sox fan; and Alison Tippett, a student at Lexington High School and daughter of Red Sox Director of Baseball Information Services Tom Tippett.

The video was produced by Red Sox Productions.
