4-Year-Old Boy Shot In Dorchester

Update: Police searching for two suspects

DORCHESTER (CBS) – A 4-year-old boy was shot in the back during a cookout at a playground in Dorchester on Monday evening.

The boy was transported to Boston Medical Center after the shooting at the corner of Talbot and Blue Hill Avenues near Franklin Field at around 9:20 p.m. He is listed in stable condition.

As many as six shots were fired at the family gathering. The boy’s mother was with him at the time of the shooting.

It’s not known who was targeted in the shooting.

WBZ-TV’s Jonathan Elias reports

“Anytime anyone is shot in the city, we’re gonna have a strong presence. But, this is a young person between 4 and 6 years old. It’s just absolutely not acceptable, and we’re gonna pull out all the stops to investigate this case. And again, we need the public to step up on this to send a big message that they will not allow this type of behavior to take place in this city,” said Supt. Bruce Holloway of the Boston Police Department.

A man was also shot in the leg. He is said to be fine.

Police said they are looking for two people. Two dirt bikes or motor scooters were seen racing away from the scene after the shooting.

Boston police are urging any witnesses to call.

Don’t mean for this comment to seem at all like I’m condoning this, as I hope the persons responsible are arrested and made an example of. But with that said, can I ask why a 4 year old is at a cookout at almost 9:30 at night? I’m not saying this was the mother’s fault in the least bit, but I don’t think a 4 year old has any place being out at a cookout, aka party, at 9:30 at night. This is a tragic occurrence, but maybe if he was home or in bed like most 4 year olds at that hour he wouldn’t have been shot in the first place.

It’s disgraceful and offensive that the media has the audacity to insinuate that there was a question as to whether the child was the intended victim, especially in light of the fact that a young man was shot in the leg. What could a 4 year old do to encourage someone to do this to him? There were no such slurs when Litlle Jeffrey curley went missing in Cambridge. I guess the media has forgetton or disregards the lessons of the Charles Stuart incident
