DARTMOUTH, Mass. (AP) — A head-on crash in the town of Dartmouth has left two motorists dead.

Police said a Jeep Commander traveling eastbound and a Mitsubishi Galant heading westbound collided late Friday afternoon on Russells Mills Road.

The driver of the Jeep, 27-year-old Derek Vassal, died after being taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, 70-year-old Joyce Gilson, was pronounced dead later Friday at Brigham & Women’s Hospital.

Both victims were Dartmouth residents.

Police said 75-year-old Lawrence Gilson, a passenger in his wife’s car, is listed in fair condition at Rhode Island Hospital.

The accident remains under investigation.
