Galvin is the state's chief securities regulator.

As social media becomes more prevalent in business dealings, Galvin says he wants to ensure that registered investment advisers using social media sites are in compliance with all state and federal securities laws.

He says there are uncertainties about how these new types of communication are being used in the marketing and advertising of investments.

The survey is due back June 8.
