Heyman On Gresh & Zo: Dice K's Health Could Hurt Front Office Relationship

Jon Heyman of the MLB network joined Gresh & Zo to talk Red Sox baseball and the rest of the MLB.

The big topic the last 24 hours has been injured pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka and the possibility he might need Tommy John Surgery.

"He's going to be resting for two weeks, that much I know," Heyman said. "Then he's going to try rehab, at least that's the plan right now."

Although it is not set in stone he will or will not need the surgery, Terry Francona actually refuted this in his post-game press conference Monday night, Matsuzaka is going to seek a second opinion.

"My understanding, when he first got the news he had a tear, he said 'let me see a Japanese surgeon,'" Heyman continued. "That's what he had on his mind with tear. I think that's a possibility."

While Matsuzka wants to head across seas to see a doctor, he is also scheduled to see Dr. Lewis Yokum, the Angels team doctor.

"He's going to see Dr. Yokum.. he's one of the best in the world," said Heyman. "This will be a good second opinion for Dice-K to trust, hopefully, so he won't need to get a Japanese doctor. This is a good American doctor. If he says rest and rehab can be tried as well, that's what he'll do."

Heyman also touched on many other topics, both Red Sox and baseball related. If Dice-K ends up on the DL, what is the trade market for starting pitchers like? Is Jarrod Saltalamacchia finally turning things around for Boston?

And in the Bronx, will Yankees ace CC Sabathia opt out of his contract after this year?

That and more with our baseball insider Jon Heyman.
