WOBURN (CBS/AP) — Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan expressed support for her brother as his manslaughter trial was about to begin.

WBZ-TV’s Diana Perez reports

Kerrigan said “I love my brother” as she entered Middlesex Superior Court on Friday where jury selection got under way.

Mark Kerrigan is charged in the 2010 death of their 70-year-old father, Daniel Kerrigan.

Prosecutors say Daniel Kerrigan died of cardiac dysrhythmia — a loss or interruption of a normal heartbeat that can lead to cardiac arrest — after a fight with his son.

Nancy Kerrigan and other family members have long publicly supported Mark. They say the elder Kerrigan died of a longstanding heart condition.

Nancy Kerrigan is expected to be called as a witness.

On Friday a jury was seated. Seven men and seven women were chosen. Opening statements are expected Monday.

Couldn’t they find a better picture of Mark Kerrigan, this photo makes him look like an imbecile.

    1. Ellen says:

Concerned, I really think putting a bad picture on someone like Mark Kerrigan is by a lot of ways deliberately done.

    2. Cynic says:

      Isn’t that the intent?

  2. Denise says:

I’m sorry… I think this is just another waste of tax payer $$. If the family doesn’t want to press charges – they are the only ones that really lost someone – the state should leave it alone. I know someone that had a massive heart attack at 41 – did the State look into the soon to be X – nope! So why this case? could it just be because “Nancy Kerrigan” has something to do w/ it? The news story doesn’t get reported w/o her name coming into the story… Please!

Denise, I agree ! It looks like politics on a shady level. The family lost their father and now they possibly end up with a brother in prison. Talk about a double lick in the teeth. I don’t think a drunk son intentionally tries to end his father’s life. I think the drink got the best of the situation and things got out of hand.

  3. Lindsay says:

It is not for the family to decide. A crime i in the hands of the State unless the father decides to drop the charges and unfortunately he is not in a position to do so.

  4. DeeGee says:

So everyone is just saying it was a coincidence that the father dropped dead with the sons hands around his neck, that he would of dropped dead at that exact moment anyways. So if someone broke into the house and the same exact thing happened everyone would be saying let the guy off with just a breaking and entering charge, the father was going to die anyway, it was just a fluke it happened at that exact time. And, lets see, also if a family member accidently kills another family member oh well, and it appears to be by accident oh well it’s the family’s loss so why pursue it. That person won’t kill again. Or pick off another family member and if they do, it’s family. and as the saying goes “you always hurt the ones you love” LMAO.

  5. DeeGee says:

Oh and BTW, didn’t read anywhere where Nancy was crying and yelling “why us” “why me” this time. Go figure.

  6. Cynic says:

If he is on trial for Manslaughter,Why not the Cops that killed the student in the Fenway after the Celtics game?………..

  7. Cynic says:

With twelve Siblings it is a wonder that my whole family didn’t find itself in the the same predicament.I wish I had a nickle for every time we decked each other. The only difference here ia the UNINTENTIONAL and UNPREDICTABLE death of one.
Our ” battles” was the subject at every Wedding and Wake for years.

  8. Sam says:

I believe imbecile is in the family’s DNA. Let’s face it, Nancy Kerrigan is no scholar. This woman is your basic “DUH” upon opening her mouth. She has the same look as her brother.
