Red Sox Gonzalez Starting To Show Pop At Plate

BOSTON (CBS) – As the Red Sox struggle to get over .500 for the season, Adrian Gonzalez keeps chugging along.

The Red Sox slugger has torn the cover off the ball recently, hitting .355 with four home runs and eight RBIs over the last week. Gonzalez has left the yard five times in the past eight games and leads the team with six homers.

He hit two home runs in Boston's 6-5 extra innings loss to the Blue Jays Tuesday night, giving the Red Sox a 4-3 lead in the 5th inning and tying the game at six with a solo homer in the top of the 9th.

This comes after Gonzalez went nearly a month without a home run. He admitted he was pressing early in the season and was getting on top of the ball, not allowing him to drive it.

That has all changed as of late.

Gonzalez is now tied for the American League lead with 28 RBIs, and in addition to leading the team in home runs also leads Boston in batting average (.324), hits (48) and slugging percentage (.541).

With his second three-hit game in three nights, and fifth on the season, Boston is starting to see the offensive consistency they dreamed about when they acquired Gonzalez over the winter.

Once the rest of the lineup turns it around, look Gonzalez' run production to increase even more.
