Woman Killed In Brockton Fire May Have Been In Illegal Apartment

BROCKTON (CBS) – An overnight fire claimed the life of a woman in Brockton.

The woman had called 911 and told police she was trapped in the basement of a home on Melrose Ave.

Responding firefighters managed to pull her out of the fire and resuscitate her.

But she died at Brockton hospital.

The fire department is looking into whether the woman may have been living in an illegal apartment in the basement.

    With the lack of affordable housing in the state, I’m sure there are many landlords out there out to make a buck by renting an illegal apartment at a low rate to people who just can’t afford to pay the high rents.

    I don’t see what this has to do with the homeless situation, and I find it sad and tragic.
