At over 50 years on the throne, is Queen Elizabeth II’s reign the longest, and will Prince Charles be the oldest to take over when it’s time?  – Robert, Fitchburg

On May 12th the Queen will become the second longest reigning monarch in British history.  If she remains Queen until the fall of 2015 she will surpass the reign of Queen Victoria and become Britain’s longest serving monarch.

As for Prince Charles, he’s 62 and is the oldest heir apparent in British history.

So William & Kate have a long wait.
