REVERE (CBS/AP) – A 28-year-old Revere man faced charges in Chelsea District Court on Monday after his girlfriend’s 5-year-old son was found unconscious with head injuries on a sidewalk last week.

Joseph Testa was arraigned on charges of assault and battery on a child causing serious bodily injury, wantonly or recklessly permitting bodily injury to a child and child endangerment.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030′s Kim Tunnicliffe reports.

State troopers and emergency medical technicians responding to Revere Beach Parkway found the child unresponsive at about 10:30 a.m. Friday. The boy was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and remains in stable condition.

The 28-year-old Testa told authorities that he was babysitting.

He was ordered held on $15,000 bail. The boy’s mother was granted a restraining order, which will keep Testa away from her and her son.

I worked with Joe Testa for two years. I’m shocked by what I just read, he was a good dude. I don’t think he would ever purposely hurt a little kid.
