BOSTON (CBS) – Breakfast…it’s an important meal that helps kids do better in school.
That’s right, today on the Parent Report we’re talking about food…specifically breakfast…school breakfast, and how important it is for many kids to start their day in class.
Helen Mont-Ferguson is the Director of Food and Nutrition Services for the Boston Public Schools and she says many kids in the Boston school system are able to eat breakfast at school, for free.
And Mont-Ferguson says over a hundred schools in the district offer free breakfast to all students. And she says these breakfasts are getting healthier with more fruit and whole grains being served.
Mont-Ferguson says the “Breakfast After The Bell” and “Breakfast in the Classroom” programs give students access to a healthy, well-balanced meal, and Boston has been nationally recognized for increasing breakfast participation among students.
