Bruins Thornton Doubtful Against Rangers
BOSTON (CBS) - Bruins forward Shawn Thornton skated with the team in New York , but is not likely to play when the B's take on the Rangers Monday night.
"I don't think we're 100-percent comfortable right now medically,"coach Claude Julien said of Thornton on the team's website. "As long as they're not comfortable, we have that luxury of being a little bit more cautious. So I would say doubtful."
Thornton received over 40 stitches above his right eye last week after being hit by the skate of the Chicago Blackhawks Fernando Pisani. He is currently wearing a visor on his helmet to protect the wound.
"If we're in the playoffs today and if he had to play, there's no doubt he'd be in there," Julian added.
"There's stitches and the damage done inside. If those stitches were to pop out, it would be a bit of a risky situation," Julian said of the injury that has kept Thornton out of the Bruins last two games.
"It's much safer if we take the cautious route, and we're going support our medical staff in regards to that."
Tuesday Night's Bruins-Rangers game can be heard on 98.5 The Sports Hub with coverage beginning at 7 p.m. with The Dunkin Donuts Bruins Pregame Show.
