Celtics Ray Allen Donates Computer Lab To Roxbury School

ROXBURY (CBS) - Celtics guard Ray Allen had a big announcement for the Tobin K-8 School in Roxbury Tuesday morning.

The NBA's All-time three-point king surprised the students with a brand-new, state of the art computer lab, the first official Ray of Hope Foundation lab. The lab will be completed in April, when Allen will return for a special dedication ceremony.

Ray Allen Announces He Is Donating A Computer Lab To Roxbury School

"Personally it gives me great satisfaction knowing that I can come into the school and help kids," Allen said after touring the School's current, and out of date, computer lab. "Kids don't have everything they need to be successful, to learn, to continue to learn. I think its up to us, the community leaders, local athletes, celebrities, whoever may see it fit that these kids have the things that they need."

Ray Allen Talks About His Donation

The lab will feature 26 new state of the art computers with flat screen monitors, full internet capabilities, and repainted walls with new design graphics. This is just one of the many computer labs Allen hopes to donate.

"I'm looking throughout Boston to try to find so many different schools that def need new computer labs," Allen said. "Just knowing the age that we're in, so many people around the world are now jumping into new age technology, and the schools that we're teaching our kids in, they don't have the necessary tools or fundamentals to succeed and move on to the high school and college level. Through my foundation im trying to find ways I can change that. Starting with computer labs is a great start."
