Former Youth Soccer Coach Guilty Of Raping Player

WOBURN (AP) -- A former youth soccer coach from Medford has been found guilty of raping one of his female players when she was 13 and 14 years old.

Another coach of the same team was acquitted of forcible child rape charges on Wednesday at the same trial in Middlesex Superior Court.

Prosecutors say Thomas Heinz was the head coach and Roger Lau his assistant on the under-14 team.

The 27-year-old Lau was convicted on child rape charges for assaulting the girl from the spring of 2003 until the summer of2004.

The 27-year-old Heinz was acquitted.

Heinz's attorney tells The Boston Globe his client was "delighted and thrilled" by the verdict and wants to move forward with his life. Lau had always maintained his innocence.
