BOSTON (CBS) — Many other retailers have tried and failed but now, a Canadian company is launching an effort to build a chain of golf stores to Massachusetts, beginning in the Boston area.
Golf Town of Ontario plans to open five stores in Greater Boston, with its largest location at the Watertown Mall covering more than 30,000 square feet. Other stores will be in Avon, Bellingham, Reading and Seekonk. A sixth location is being built in Northboro and should be open this summer. Each store will feature a putting green and a club test area.
Golf Town CEO Steve Bebis tells WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Anthony Silva he choose Boston because the New England area showed the largest increase in the number of rounds played last year and there are a number of empty stores ripe for redevelopment.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030′s Anthony Silva reports.
