Keller @ Large: Pitiful Saga Of Nir Rosen

BOSTON (CBS) - Perhaps you're already aware of the pitiful saga of Nir Rosen, an alleged journalist who has been bounced from his cushy NYU fellowship after he reacted to the brutal attack on CBS News reporter Lara Logan in Cairo with a series of comments mocking her on Twitter.

Listen to Jon's commentary:

"Lara Logan had to outdo Anderson," he wrote, a reference to the earlier beating of CNN's Anderson Cooper as he tried to report from Cairo.

Noting that the attack on Logan was sexual in nature, Rosen added: "it would have been funny if it happened to Anderson too."

And he capped off the self-destruction of his magnificent career with this bit of genius: "Jesus Christ, at a moment when she is going to become a martyr and glorified we should at least remember her role as a major war monger."

If you think this sort of unvarnished misogyny, homophobia, cruelty and knee-jerk hatred of the mainstream media indicates Rosen is some kind of knuckle-dragging right-winger, think again.

He's an avowed leftist, or rather, he inhabits that nether-world of stupidity and arrogance where the far-right and far-left meet and become indistinguishable.

If you still don't believe me, check out his follow-up comments, ostensibly including an apology, in an interview with the web site Fishbowl DC.

Rosen says he lashed out in such grotesque fashion against Logan because "a part of me was bothered by how celebrities, especially white ones, get so much attention, and before I realized it was a sexual assault I was sort of anticipating a return to the old theme about unleashed brown natives attacking a white woman."

Terrific.

Better add racism to this dunce's litany of sins.

Rosen says he's sorry, but he's really only sorry that he's overshadowed what he describes as his efforts to "bring attention to victims of injustice and to give voice and empowerment to the weak."

Somehow, I think they'll get along without any further help from him – as will the rest of us.
