Sen. Brown Weighs In On Egypt

NEW BEDFORD (CBS) -- Sen. Scott Brown says it's now up to the Egyptian people to determine their destiny.

The junior Senator from Massachusetts offered his comments while meeting with fishermen Saturday in New Bedford.

Sen. Brown says he's encouraged that peaceful protests led to Hosni Mubarak's resignation as Egypt's president. He supports free and open elections and says he's okay with military patrol during the interim.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Kim Tunnicliffe reports.

"If not the military than who? Everyone says, 'Oh we want him to leave.' But I don't hear anybody say, 'Who's next?' Muslim Brotherhood? I trust the military more than I trust the Muslim Brotherhood right now based on what I know," the Senator said.

Egyptians are not completely happy with the military being in charge, recognizes Sen. Brown, but he says it's better than having a void and total anarchy.
