Doctor Brad Sachs is the author of "Emptying the Nest." He writes about how families can set their young adult children on the road to self-reliance. Dr. Sachs says if parents do too much for their kids, why would they want to leave?
Sachs says while children are often living with their parents much longer than what used to be considered normal, parents must start early to help their kids become independent. And parents have to realize kids can do a lot for themselves without their parent's assistance.
Dr. Sachs says parents must engage in "parental guidance," rather than "parental control."
