SALEM, N.H. (CBS) – This amazing video from I93 south in Salem, New Hampshire is literally world famous now.
It’s been broadcast on news programs and websites around the globe.
The youtube.com video of the incident has been viewed almost 400,000 times since an Eagle-Tribune photographer captured the images early Tuesday morning.
“It’s the first time I’ve even seen anything like that,” said tow truck operator Jason Croteau. He’s worked for RGA Tire and Auto in Pelham, N.H. for a decade. He says the Ford looked delicately balanced, but really wasn’t.
“It was sturdy,” explains Croteau. “You could try to rock it, but it wouldn’t rock. The person, whoever was in the vehicle, was safe once they hit that because it wasn’t going to roll either way.”
The woman behind the wheel is a 41-year-old from Derry N.H. She’s fine today.
WBZ-TV talked off-camera to the woman’s boyfriend who says she’s a little bruised and banged up, and more than a little overwhelmed by all the attention her accident has gotten.
WBZ-TV’s Jim Armstrong reports from Salem, N.H.
The driver actually stayed suspended in her seat, thanks to her seatbelt, until rescue crews could get her car level.
Amazingly, as you can tell in our video, her vehicle doesn’t look that much worse for the wear.
“This car probably caused 13 cars to go off the road in a matter of five minutes,” says Crouteau.
“This was the first accident and it was stuffed in the snow. And then there were cars taking pictures, even when I was out there, people with camera phones, cars over the guardrail. It was crazy. So I can see why it’s getting so much attention.”
