BOSTON (CBS) –  Temperatures are now dropping off everywhere.

Boston just dipped below freezing and all of southeastern Massachusetts, including the Cape, will get there by tonight.

So all of the standing water will be freezing in the next several hours.

Watch Melissa Mack and Barry Burbank’s forecast

Snow and sleet are the main precipitation type north of the Massachusetts Turnpike to the New Hampshire border.

It is still accumulating in Lawrence, Fitchburg, Westford, Nashua and towns farther north.

The precipitation all winds down this afternoon.

It will be much lighter thereafter.

I’ve already cleaned up at least 7″ in Tewksbury and it’s been sleeting/snowing for about 30 minutes. What a mess! I have no place to throw it! :-(

Cheer up! The groundhog couldn’t have possibly have seen his shadow today, and Joe Joyce is cautiously optimistic we may get into a warmer pattern by mid month. Mainly rain events at least near the coast by then.

It’s more than raining in Boston. The sidewalks downtown are a sheet of ice. Even people with workboots and such are sliding all over the place. Walk around outside at your own risk at the moment. And the puddles are insane.

Seems be happy no matter if its good or bad,,, Last I checked Weather is an unpredictable event, So not sure if its as easy as some might want it to be, To many variables and well winds change suddenly and so does the weather, Glad it wasnt as bad as it COULD have been,, Be greatfull IF POSSIBLE>
