Cold-Related MBTA Issues Persist Through Evening Commute

BOSTON (CBS) - The bitter cold weather caused numerous delays in MBTA service Monday morning, and the problem continued into the afternoon and evening.

WBZ-TV's Karen Anderson reports.

Numerous Commuter Rail trains on the Newburyport-Rockport and Lowell Lines were canceled throughout the afternoon.

Meanwhile, significant delays of at least 15-20 minutes were reported on the Greenbush, Needham, and Fairmount lines of the Commuter Rail.

Minor delays were reported on the Red and Green Lines, while several bus routes were slowed because of traffic and signal problems.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Bernice Corpuz reports from North Station.

Meanwhile, some Orange Line passengers waited for more than 30 minutes for a train. In the bitter cold, that felt like an eternity.

"It would have been nice to maybe have like some heaters up in the platform upstairs because people were freezing. It was awful," said one commuter. "My toes were frozen. I couldn't feel them. They hurt. It was horrible."
