Bart Scott: Welker’s ‘Days In A Uniform Will Be Numbered’

FOXBORO (CBS) – The Jets are firing back after Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker made 11 foot or toe references during a press conference on Thursday, possibly directed to Rex Ryan and his reported involvement in foot fetish videos.

“[We’re] really moving forward and we’re going out there being good little foot soldiers,” Welker said Thursday.

Jets center Nick Mangold countered Welker’s tongue-in-cheek words with some words of his own, via Twitter.

“Wes Welker is a great player. He’s really taken advantage of watching film. If we don’t keep a Spy on him, he could really open the Gate,” Mangold said, making an obvious reference to the Spygate scandal that plagued the team in 2007.

Jets linebacker Bart Scott, however, took it to a whole new level, prompting NFL officials to take notice. Scott told Newsday that Welker better watch himself during Sunday’s game.

“I’ll tell you what,” Scott told Newsday on Friday. “Be very careful what you say about our coach. His [Welker’s] days in a uniform will be numbered. Put it like that.”

NFL lead disciplinarian Ray Anderson sent out a notice to the eight remaining playoff teams to watch the trash talking.

“Ray Anderson reminded players that comments of a physically threatening nature are always taken into account in evaluating discipline for any illegal physical contact on the field,” league spokesman Greg Aiello said Saturday.

The Patriots and Jets will finally take the field to settle the score once and for all Sunday at 4:30 p.m. on CBS.

The fact that the Jets were humiliated in the last game against the Patriots amkes it clear that they are trying to totally psych them out by all of the taunts and name calling. I don’t blame Rex Ryan one bit for doing what he’s doing. Sometimes such behavior works and sometimes it doesn’t.

Jets make me want to vomit, Go Patriots!!

  • Cynic

I heard that the Jets will be moving to Buffalo but that could be just a rumor.

    • brat

Buffalo just called. One word “Fahgedaboutit!”

  • Bob in NH

The Jets know they have no shot so they are doing what any non disciplined and unorganized team would do. Resort to trash talk. The Pats are going to tear the Jets apart with surgical precision.

    My prediction 38-10 Pats

it isn’t about the TALK….its about the TURNOVERS……it will go along ways to determine the outcome of the game tomorrow, as it is greatly affecting the Steelers-Ravens game.

  • Ellen

Think it could backfire on the Jets. Ya, keep it up and lets see who’s going to win. The Pats for sure.

  • JUNE

I think the JETS tean need to grow up, starting with there COACH!! Its hard to believe the owners of that football fanchise would allow such trash talk from its players. I think they all need to be FINED big time! PATRIOTS ARE GOING TO WIN!! GO PATS!

It’s one thing to make bold pedictions, or poke fun at your opponent, but to threaten bodily harm in a game where one play could end one’s career, or cause permanent physical damage is crossing the line. I love football and all the players are aware of the inherent risk, any additional violence is unecessary, whether theatened or actual. I hope the Pats win big, but hope everything stays legal and clean. There are clean and legal ways to get revenge, I hope that is all that happens. Pats win by at least 14.

OOH, Welker struck a nerve???? Poor Baby!!! I guess it was ok though, that Cromartie makes personal attacks at Tom Brady!!! Trash talk, and attempting to psych out the opponent, is all fine and good, but the way I see it, when you verbally attack someone, and insult the person that they are….all bets are off. Bart Scott needs to quit his whining and get over it!!!! Way to go, Wes Welker! GO PATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In any football one plays the game between the ears
as well as between the football posts.
Wuthout mind gaves it gets a little too “courteous”, don’t you think?

  • Gil

Its suppose to be Professional Football Bart Scott not a street gang ,maybe the NFL sould fine Ryan and Scott for making it the Jets Gang .

  • Jim

    It’s pretty simple
The Jets follow the lead of their coach Rex
The Pats follow the lead of Bill
    Trash vs Class
    Pats win 35-10

BREAKING NEWS: Practice at the Jets Stadium was delayed 2 hours yesterday after a player found a white powdery substance on the ground. Police and Homeland Security investigated. Experts determined that the white substance, unfamiliar to most of the players, was in fact the goal line. Practice will resume since the team was unlikely to encounter the substance again.

Scotts comments remind me of grade school. The bully taunts and taunts until the one being put down makes one comment. The bully gets insulted, and then threatens to beat the other kid up.

Jets have just about 30 minutes to go before the losing starts. Please check my prediction and New York photos at #jets #patriots #newyork
