Rep. Koutoujian Named Middlesex County Sheriff
BOSTON (CBS/AP) – State Representative Peter Koutoujian was named as the new Middlesex County sheriff Friday.
Gov. Deval Patrick made the announcement Friday afternoon at the Cambridge District Courthouse in Medford.
Koutoujian will take over for former Sheriff James DiPaola, who committed suicide last year.
WBZ News Radio’s Bernice Corpuz was at the announcement.
DiPaola had been the subject of a front-page Boston Globe story reporting that he planned to both collect his salary and a nearly $100,000 annual pension beginning in January.
Koutoujian, 49, will serve until the next statewide election in 2012.
He is a Democrat from Waltham who was a Middlesex County prosecutor before being elected to the Legislature in 1996. He has a wife and three young children.
