Boston Police Shoot Heavily Armed Man After Crash
BOSTON (CBS) – Boston police shot a man who allegedly pointed a loaded gun at them in Dorchester late Saturday night.
Officers from the gang unit tried to pull over a Chrysler PT Cruiser on East Street around 11 p.m., but it took off and later crashed at the on ramp from Freeport Street to Interstate 93.

All but one person inside the SUV ran off.
According to police, one of the men who fled, 21-year-old Marvin Veiga of Dorchester, pointed a loaded assault rifle at officers, but did not fire.
"(O)fficers observed him to be in possession of an assault rifle and commanded him to drop it numerous times. The suspect ignored officers' commands and instead turned and pointed the rifle in the direction of the officers. As a result of the suspect's actions, one officer discharged his firearm, striking the suspect in the leg," police said in a statement.
Veiga was arrested and taken to Boston Medical Center, where he's being treated for a "non-life threatening injury."
The other three men, 23-year-old Osvaldir Mendes of Dorchester, 18-year-old Takari Elliott of Dorchester and 18-year-old Daronde Bethea of Milton, were captured and arrested.
They're charged with several firearms violations.
Police say they also found a .40 caliber handgun and about forty rounds of ammunition and several face masks at the scene.
"This is a clear case of a group of gang members who were on a mission to carry out a senseless act of violence. The intervention by our courageous officers undoubtedly thwarted a homicide," police commissioner Ed Davis said in a statement Sunday.
