Former Patriot Mike Haynes Now Prostate Cancer Spokesperson

FOXBORO (CBS) -- Sunday night's Patriots game against the Packers at Gillette Stadium is being dedicated to bring attention the NFL's prostate cancer initiative.

A spokesman for the effort is Hall of Famer Mike Haynes who played for the Patriots and Oakland Raiders.

He says he became aware there was a possible problem after being tested at the Pro Football Hall of Fame during an event sponsored by the NFL and the American Urological Association about a year and a-half ago.

"Like many other men I know, prostate cancer was the farthest thing from my mind and I had no idea just how common it is, with African American men such as myself at an even greater risk," said Haynes. "Now, I want to do what I can to get men and their loved ones talking and to help them fully understand the facts about this disease."

Haynes says he's now recovered and doing just fine.

WBZ News Radio's Rod Fritz talked with Mike Haynes about what the NFL is doing to battle prostate cancer.
