BOSTON (CBS) – It was a somber day for military families across the region Thursday. Two local families just received word they lost loved ones in Afghanistan, on the same day a third family welcomed home their fallen son.

Mike Geary, a 2009 graduate of Pinkerton Academy who joined the Marines after graduation, was killed in Afghanistan. No details about the circumstances of Geary’s death were immediately available.

Geary, 20, was from Derry, New Hampshire.
