Driver Killed In SUV Crash, Explosion In Waltham

WALTHAM (CBS) - A driver was killed early Thursday morning when his SUV crashed and exploded in Waltham.

A Kia Sportage was heading north on Lexington Street around 12:30 a.m. when it veered off the road, through a guardrail, flipped over into an embankment and burst into flames.

"The best we can tell is the occupant of the vehicle went over the guardrail and possibly the gas tank somehow got involved, whether it got punctured or separated or something the fuel became ignited," Dept. Fire Chief Roger Hebert told WBZ-TV.
