Knitters To Descend On Mass. State House

BOSTON (CBS) -- More than 100 knitters will be at the State House Sunday helping to put together new blankets as housewarming gifts.

The blankets are being given to formerly homeless men and women who move into Pine Street Inn's permanent housing.

Pine Street Inn, which has been creating permanent housing for homeless people since 1984, now has 30 locations in Boston and Brookline with 550 tenants. The organization also offers job training, emergency shelter and outreach.

This is the fourth annual Knit-A-Thon. In addition to putting together squares that have been knitted and forming a blanket, the Knit-A-Thon will be raising money for Pine Street Inn and its programs.

In the first three years the Knit-a-Thons raised more than $70,000 and more than 200 blankets were delivered.
