BOSTON (CBS) – The Red Sox announced Thursday they will exercise their $12.5 million club option on David Ortiz for the 2011 season.
Ortiz hit .270 with 32 homers and drove in 102 runs last season after a slow start in April.
The Sox had to make their decision on whether to bring him back by midnight.
Ortiz wants a multi-year deal, which the Red Sox have not ruled out.
There has been no comment from Ortiz yet.
