Question 1: Alcohol Tax Repealed

BOSTON (CBS) – You’ll be able to pop the cork on New Years champagne that won’t be subject to the sales tax.

Voters in Massachusetts have voted to repeal the tax on alcohol, giving their approval to Question One.

Opponents called the alcohol tax an extra levy on an already taxed product as well as an added burden on struggling consumers and a disadvantage for package store owners, especially those near the New Hampshire border.

WBZ Producer Jon MacLean speaks with Vic DiGravio, co-chair of
the Committee Against Repeal of the Alcohol Tax.

I wonder if the gov will follow the will of the people?? When will the repeal go into effect?

  2. Tim Donaghey says:

I was discouraged to just hear Jack WIlliams report that the money from the liquor sales tax is used to fund treatment and prevention programs. As an owner of a store north of Boston, I can tell you that when filing the montly sales tax return with the state there is no way to differentiate between alcohol sales and all other taxable products. ALL monies go into the general fund and ARE NOT EARMARKED for any specific program.
