Felger & Mazz On: Boston Red Sox Questions

Theo Epstein joins Felger & Mazz Friday afternoon to talk about the Red Sox's season and upcoming plans, and the guys have a wide variety of topics to bring up to the Sox GM. They go over what they plan to ask Epstein and discuss the topics concerning the team this winter. The number of question marks surrounding the Red Sox's off-season could be alarming...

Felger: "Here's what's on my short list. Specifically...Why did he move Ellsbury out of center? Why did he feel the need to bring in Mike Cameron in the first place? And more importantly, is that still the plan!? Are we doing that all over again? And [Ellsbury] doesn't trust your doctor, how do you feel moving forward with that? I want to ask him, why the timing with Beckett [concerning his contract extension]? I want to ask him if they have a decision to make on the closer...Is that still Papelbon's job for sure? Did he have financial constraints this year? And since today could be one of those days- and not that this is his department but hell, we'll have him on the phone- how the team handles rain delays and rainouts and the dissemination of that information?"

Mazz:: "I want to ask him how they're going to fix the bullpen...I want to ask him about the middle of the lineup and if that's something they can fill through trade...The Red Sox right now are far more interesting going into the winter than they were during the summer. It was one of my complaints pre-04, and now they are back at that stage. There are a million questions to ask Theo, a million! And they're all legit...All the things you touched on, from Ellsbury to Beckett to the bullpen, they're all fair game...I'm curious about how carefully they're going to look at the medical staff this off-season. Is that an area in which they're forecasting potential change? Are those guys under review?"
