WBZ’s Doug Cope talks about a mini-van delivery.
It’s every parent’s worst nightmare…not making it to the hospital in time when your son or daughter is ready to come in to the world.
Mark Nardelli, the principal of Newton’s Horace Mann Elementary School, and his wife, Christine Dardia, a teacher in Westwood, had the scare of their lives when they realized they weren’t going to make it to Newton-Wellesley Hospital in time for their third child to be born and that their mini-van was going to become a maternity ward. Nardelli says they knew he would have to deliver their baby in the front seat by the side of Route 128, alone, in the middle of the night.
Nardelli says he gathered up a blanket and just got ready for whatever happened next.
State police and EMT’s arrived, but little Alora Grace had already been born…their third daughter.
Baby, mother and father all did fine
