Everett police shoot suspected bank robber

A suspected bank robber has been shot by police in Everett.

Mayor Carl DeMaria said a police officer fired his weapon after the suspect lunged at him with a knife. The man was taken to a hospital by ambulance. His identity and the extent of his injuries wasn't known.

Authorities said the suspect fled after a robbery at the Everett Cooperative Bank shortly before noon on Tuesday. It was not known how much, if any, cash was taken in the robbery.

No other injuries were reported.

The Middlesex District Attorney's office and the FBI are assisting in the investigation.
