Worcester bus drivers authorize strike

Drivers and mechanics for the the Worcester Regional Transit Authority have voted to authorize a strike if their contract dispute is not settled.

A union vote Sunday authorizes the Executive Board to vote to strike if the authority imposes a last contract offer amid tense negotiations.

Drivers have been without a contract since July 1.

The WRTA says it hopes to avoid a strike, and that there's no intention of imposing a last offer before the union has a chance to review it.

A mediation session is planned for Tuesday
