MA officials issue drought advisory
The state has issued a drought advisory for northeast and central Massachusetts.
The Massachusetts Drought Management Task Force said Friday that state, regional and local water officials need to monitor for fire danger and the water supply for firefighting.
Rainfall in the northeast and central regions of the state has declined from May throughout the summer.
Officials say fire danger is a threat because dry soil conditions can cause fires to burn deep in the ground and spread quickly across large swaths of land.
So far this year, 86 municipalities in the state have conservation restrictions on outdoor water use.
The state said public water supply managers might need to step up those conservation measures.
