New Bedford woman/car crash into water

An elderly driver was trapped in her car Saturday morning when it ended up in the water in New Bedford.

Authorities say the woman, whose name is unavailable, drove off the New Bedford city marine at Pope's Marine around 10 a.m.

John Conley of Barrington, Rhode Island was nearby and jumped in to save the driver before emergency crews arrived.

He told authorities he dove down three times before he was able to open the car and get the driver out.

The woman was taken to St. Luke's Hospital; her condition is unknown.
