MA, RI sign agreement on wind power projects
Massachusetts and Rhode Island have agreed to coordinate on potential wind power projects in a designated 400 square miles of federal waters.
An agreement announced Monday identifies an area for development that starts 12 miles southwest of Martha's Vineyard and reaches 20 miles into Rhode Island Sound.
Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and Rhode Island Gov. Don Carcieri said in joint statements Monday that the agreement will serve as a roadmap as both states move toward offshore wind projects.
The agreement mandates that the two states collaborate on an economic development study to look at the costs and benefits of creating wind power projects in the designated area.
