85-Year-Old Man Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash In Taunton
TAUNTON (CBS) – An 85-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Taunton Wednesday evening. Officers believe he was in the crosswalk on Middleborough Ave. by Center Street when he was hit.
The victim, Jose Ferreira, was just feet from his house that sits on the corner. The vehicle that struck Ferreira is believed to be a blue or dark-colored pick-up truck, most likely a GMC Sierra. The truck may have sustained minor damage to its hood or windshield.
A neighbor found Ferreira lying in the road around 5:30 p.m. and called police. He was taken to Morton Hospital with life-threatening injuries and later pronounced dead.
Police are looking for surveillance images and asking witnesses who were driving in the area for information.
"Investigators believe there are other witnesses who were driving in the area of the crash at the time of the incident and are asking them to please come forward and contact police," a spokesman for the Bristol County District Attorney's office said. "Even seemingly minor details or observations could be helpful to investigators as they search for the driver."
