Serious Crash Traps Driver, Shuts Down 495 North In Andover
ANDOVER (CBS) – A serious crash on Interstate 495 in Andover shut down the northbound side of the highway Monday afternoon.
Massachusetts State Police said a small SUV drove off the highway and into a tree in the median, just south of the ramp to Route 28.
"The damage was so heavy it took extensive work by firefighters to cut away enough wreckage to safely extricate the victim, who was conscious throughout," police said in a statement.
Police closed the highway to allow a medical helicopter to transport the seriously injured man to a hospital.
The cause of the crash is being investigated.
