Prosecutors Accuse Kraft's Lawyers Of Lying In Court
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP/CBS) — Two of Patriots owner Robert Kraft's defense attorneys are being accused of lying by prosecutors in his solicitation of prostitution case.
The Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office filed a motion Tuesday asking that attorneys Alex Spiro and William Burck be held in contempt.
Prosecutors say Spiro falsely accused Jupiter police officer Scott Kimbark in court last week of telling other officers he would lie to justify the traffic stop of another Orchids of Asia Day Spa customer. Officers stopped customers after alleged traffic violations to learn their identities so they could be charged later.
Prosecutors say recordings of Kimbark show he never said anything like that. Prosecutors say Burck abetted Spiro.
Kraft pleaded not guilty.
In an email to WBZ, Kraft's lawyers say prosecutors are desperate and pathetic:
"It's an act of desperation by the State Attorney Dave Aronberg. They know what they filed is false and misleading to the court but they did it anyway because they are desperate. That's because they want to deflect attention away from their illegal and unconstitutional methods in investigating and prosecuting this case. They first falsely accused Robert Kraft of being involved with human trafficking and then had to back off. Now they are falsely accusing the defense lawyers of lying to the court. It's pathetic. But it takes a lot more than State Attorney Dave Aronberg and the lawyers he's got in court to intimidate Quinn Emanuel lawyers from doing their jobs in a vigorous and ethical manner."
