MALDEN (CBS) – A Malden shooting in the area of Eastern Avenue and Bryant Street around 6:30 p.m. Saturday was not random, police say.

The 23-year-old male victim was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Malden police say they have one male suspect and are working with state police.

On Sunday, the victim was identified as Jeury Batista of Salem.

“The preliminary investigation suggests that the shooting occurred as part of a suspected drug transaction,” said a statement from the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.
