Suspect Arrested After Road Rage Stabbing In Norton

NORTON (CBS) – An Attleboro man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing another driver in an apparent act of road rage in Easton Thursday afternoon. A 25-year-old man was stabbed in the chest after an argument that began at Five Corners in Easton and continued into Norton.

The victim followed a landscaper and asked for help near the intersection of Boutas Dr. & Plain St. "He pulled in and said 'I need help I've been stabbed in the chest,'" Dan Cahill said. "I called 911 I asked him if he was alright, he said he had better days, just comforted him made him feel alright."

Cahill said the man was stabbed in the upper middle part of his chest. "I think he was losing it so he got nervous and he pulled in," Cahill said.

The victim underwent surgery at Rhode Island Hospital and is in stable condition.

Police say the victim and suspect both told similar stories. "They both described the road rage incident, altercation on the roadway involving stop signs," Norton Police Lt. Todd Jackson said.

The victim was stabbed about a mile away from the quiet Norton neighborhood he pulled into.

"I called 911 and told my guys to grab a hammer and be prepared if they guy comes down the road," Cahill said.

The victim took a picture of the suspect's license plate and car. Police found the suspect, 49-year-old Alfred Pond, at his home on Maple Street in Attleboro. He was arrested and was being held by Norton Police.

The knife was found in a wooded area along Pine Street in Norton, approximately a half mile from where the stabbing took place.

Pond will be arraigned Friday in Attleboro District Court.
