SOUTHWEST HARBOR, Maine (CBS) – A Maine restaurant is using marijuana to give lobsters a high before they’re cooked.

Charlotte Gill, owner of Charlotte’s Legendary Lobster Pound, tells The Mount Desert Islander she has been sedating lobsters with cannabis before they are steamed, if the customer requests it. She hopes to soon sedate all lobsters before cooking them.

“If we’re going to take a life we have a responsibility to do it as humanely as possible,” she tells the website.

She sedated her first lobster “Roscoe” by placing him in a covered box with some water at the bottom, and then blew marijuana smoke into the water. She told The Islander that Roscoe became calmer, not using his claws as weapons against other lobsters. He was released into the ocean as a reward for being the first in the experiment.

Gill, who has a medical marijuana caregiver license, believes lobster meat tastes better if the animal is less stressed before dying.

“The difference it makes within the meat itself is unbelievable,” she told the website. “Everything you put into your body is energy.”

    LOL! Talk about a new excuse to smoke more pot, by leftist potheads! So, liberals in Maine now can determine whether or not a lobster is high on dope, before it is dropped in a boiling pot of water? Gee, just like how trees have feelings and they should spend the time hugging them? How stupid is this? So, maybe we should also go to Africa in the Safari, and make sure a gazelle is high on dope before allowing a lion to hunt it down–so it feels no pain? How much more of this idiocy can a person take?

  5. Toking on the job. She reminds me on a bartender I knew years ago who also enjoyed having a shot with the customer. By the end of the night he was flat out on the floor behind the bar.

  6. Put a lobster in the freezer for 15 minutes and it goes to sleep. Works better than pot.

  7. I have worked in Restaurants for believe me some places the lobsters we’re getting the contact high from the staff. I really have no problem with this so kudos to the staff for their “Innovation” why that isn’t a fatty we’re sedating the lobsters yeah that’s the ticket.
