State Police Looking To Pair Retired K9s With Forever Homes

BOSTON (CBS) – Massachusetts State Police they have received hundreds of inquires after announcing that two retiring K-9s are up for adoption.

Klauss is a 5.5-year-old Malinois mix. The other is Alex, an 8-year-old German shepherd.

Police will conduct interviews and run background checks on prospective owners.

"We will conduct interviews with and run background checks on those interested, and we will only turn the dogs over to those whom we determine are the 'right' person or family for each dog's forever home," police said.

Police said the response has been "tremendous." About 500 people expressed interest and the vetting process is underway.
