Car Crashes Into Emergency Room At Newton-Wellesley Hospital

NEWTON (CBS) -- The two elderly women inside a car that crashed into the emergency room window at Newton-Wellesley Hospital are not seriously hurt.

"Fortunately, no one was inside at the time so there were no injuries to anybody inside," said Newton-Wellesley Hospital's Brian O'Dea. "And neither of the two occupants were injured, they are just shaken up."

The crash occurred at the pediatric waiting area Sunday afternoon.

O'Dea said the accident occurred when the woman went to park the car against the curb but accidentally hit the accelerator.

"Two women were coming into the emergency department, one was coming in because she had a nose bleed, her friend was driving her but it was not her car, so she wasn't terribly familiar with it," explained O'Dea.

The 87-year-0ld woman driving was using her 86-year-old friend's car.

The emergency room remained open and active the entire time.

Hospital officials said it did not appear that the building itself suffered significant damage.
