Wrong Way Driver Cited In Mass. Pike Crash In Newton

NEWTON (CBS) -- Police have cited the 80-year-old man who drove the wrong way on the Mass. Pike on Monday.

The Westwood man was traveling westbound on the eastbound side of the Pike for three miles before crashing into a barrier near Exit 17. He was taken to St. Elizabeth's Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Police say other drivers swerved to avoid him, which led to a three-car crash.

Police issued him a citation for negligent operation of a motor vehicle, wrong way operation, and marked lanes violation.

The driver's name has not been released.
