Eduardo Rodriguez Scheduled To Start Sunday For Red Sox

BOSTON (CBS) -- Eduardo Rodriguez is scheduled to return to the Boston rotation on Sunday.

Granted, the last time we heard that phrase the lefty was a late scratch, leaving Boston to call up Henry Owens for an emergency start against the Detroit Tigers last weekend. But this time around, Rodriguez is adamant that he'll be toeing the rubber.

Rodriguez threw a bullpen session on Thursday and said he's good to go for the final game of Boston's three-game set with the Kansas City Royals on Sunday night at Fenway Park.

"I was able to throw all my pitches to where I wanted them," he told The Boston Herald's Jason Mastrodonato in St. Petersburg, Florida. "It feels good."

Rodriguez hasn't started for the Red Sox since August 16, when he was removed from his no-hit bid against the Baltimore Orioles in the fifth inning with a hamstring issue. He was scheduled to start last Sunday against the Detroit Tigers, only to be scratched from that outing late Saturday night.

But Rodriguez insisted on Thursday that there'd be no late change of plans this time around.

"Yeah, I'll do whatever they want. If they put me on Sunday, I'm pitching Sunday. It feels good and I'm ready for that," he told The Herald.

Rodriguez has been solid for Boston since being recalled from Triple-A on July 15, sporting a 2.52 ERA in his seven starts since. He's just 1-2 in those outings, but has held opposing hitters to a .228 average while striking out 39 in 39.1 innings of work. For the season, the 23-year-old is 2-5 with a 5.11 ERA in 13 big-league starts.
