Nate Ebner Confirms: Gronk Is The Most Unstoppable Physical Force On Earth

By Matt Dolloff, CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) -- Everybody knows Rob Gronkowski is an inhuman football player. But what if he tried his hand at rugby? His ability to shake off defenders and protect the ball with his size and power would probably make him at least serviceable in physical contact sports like rugby.

His teammate Nate Ebner confirmed as much in his interview on The Dan Patrick Show Thursday, which you can watch in the video above. Ebner should know, considering he was selected to play rugby for Team U.S.A. in the Olympics. Patrick asked Ebner how Gronk would fare in rugby.

"I mean, how would Gronk be at anything that is physical?" said Ebner. "I think that answers that. He's a beast. He'd have no problems."

So there you have it. Gronk is not just one of the most incredible football players to ever grace a field, he could dominate at just about any contact sport if you gave him the chance. To be fair, I wouldn't agree with any kind of argument for Gronk as a basketball player, like when the NFL Network asked if LeBron James would make a better tight end - but Ebner said physical sports.

Ebner was also asked about the conversations he had with Bill Belichick about training to play Olympic rugby, which is a treacherous path to tread considering the Pats don't like telling anyone about what they say behind closed doors, nor should they.

"[I spoke with] not only [Belichick], but the rest of the Patriots organization. We had lots of conversations about my desire to try to be a part of the Olympics," said Ebner. "So, many conversations were had and ultimately they backed me the entire way and gave me their blessing. I'm extremely thankful and grateful that they gave me this opportunity because, without that blessing, I wouldn't know that I would be here."

So about getting that rugby tryout for Gronk ...
