Alleged Drunk Driver Held On $50,000 Bail After Fatal Crash In Rehoboth

REHOBOTH (CBS) - Deborah Charette was still shaken up and close to tears Monday as she relived the moment a pickup truck collided head on with a motorcycle right in front of her as she drove her own vehicle a few minutes from her home in Rehoboth on Saturday.

"There was a truck coming from the opposite direction, in our lane traveling at a high rate of speed," Charette said. "And the motorcyclist didn't stand a chance. Hit him head on."

That motorcyclist, 62-year-old Anthony Kishfy of Seekonk was killed, pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup, Jeffrey Fisk of Rehoboth, was in court Monday charged with drunk driving. Police say he appeared drunk and smelled of alcohol after the crash.

Charette backs that up. "He was obviously drunk," she said. "He was slurring his words, staggering, when he got to the front of his car he looked down and that's when he realized that he had hit somebody."

Fisk was ordered held on $50,000. His lawyer Roger Ferris says Fisk was coherent and was pleading with people on scene to call 911.

He also says Fisk is sorry. "Of course he's remorseful, very remorseful," said Ferris. "This is a difficult time for anyone in a situation like that. They want to reach out and express their remorse, but I told him not to reach out to anyone because that might prejudice his case."
