Phantom Gourmet: Tasty Tater Tots
BOSTON (CBS) -- Tater tots used to be something only served to kids in school cafeterias, but they've become a trendy dish at restaurants.
The most popular appetizer at the 110 Grill in Chelmsford is their signature tater tot poutine.
They're fried and seasoned, presented in a bowl with a caramelized shallot demi-glace on top, kind of smothering them, and then it's served with the housemade cheese sauce on the side.
Ogie's Trailer Park in Providence, Rhode Island is known for its kitschy decor and deliciously nostalgic menu, including six variety of tater tots from truffled with Grano Padano cheese to a;; the way with chili, onions and yellow mustard.
The tots at The Kitchen Eatery in Portsmouth, New Hampshire are so special, they're known as "spudsters." They are mashed potatoes that are formed into cones, deep fried and seasoned with rubs and dips.
And there's a lot more out there including sweet potato tots at Bukowski Tavern in Boston's Back Bay and chili cheese tater tots from The Lower Depths in Kenmore Square.
